Northeast Ohio’s Rail Transportation Systems
Rail transportation is an important option for Northeast Ohio’s businesses. It is crucial to the region’s economic health and is a critical component to our transportation infrastructure.
Rail infrastructure provides 31% of all inbound freight to Northeast Ohio and helps keep transportation costs associated with manufacturing low. Northeast Ohio would need to add 5.1 million trucks to its highways to carry the freight that is currently transported through Northeast Ohio by rail. Rail freight is forecast to grow by 60% in ton miles by 2020.
