NEO Undeveloped v Developed Land Map

These maps, which were prepared by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Office of Coastal Management, compare undeveloped and developed land in Northeast Ohio.

At first glance, it appears the 1979 map shows more developed land than the 2006 map. However, the acreage calculations of Undeveloped and Developed categories for each map show that developed areas in 2006 exceed developed areas in 1979.

There are two reasons the 1979 map appears more developed than the 2006 map. The resolution is much coarser for the 1979 map than the 2006 map and developed areas are more dispersed and less cohesive in 2006 compared with 1979.
